This post contains spoilers for the Stranger Things series finale.

In December, Stranger Things ended after almost 10 years and more than 40 episodes — but the reception wasn't nearly as strong as it was for the show's earlier seasons.

The fifth and final season is the lowest-rated in the show's history, garnering a 53% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many viewers took issue with its visuals, writing, and bloated cast, with some calling it everything from a "generational fumble" to a "Game of Thrones level disaster."

Reviews of the finale weren't great, either. Some fans said they felt "underwhelmed" and "disappointed" by several storylines, including the fate of Eleven, the show's beloved heroine, who appeared to die in the final moments.

They weren't the only ones unhappy with the finale, either. Papa actor Matthew Modine also appeared to dislike the ending.

Matthew shared his thoughts on the finale while responding to fan comments under a recent Instagram video. When one person asked him whether he liked the finale, he succinctly replied, "nope."

Matthew appeared on the show for four seasons before his character was killed off in Season 4. While he didn't share why he disliked the finale, he made it clear it wasn't about his character's fate. After one fan asked, "What if you never died," he responded, "Everything dies. The moment you accept this inevitably is the moment you truly begin living and become present ❤️."
